FORM PROJECT - CAMERA BAG
DESIGN PRINCIPLES 2 - SPRING 2020 -PROFESSOR BETH MOSHER
JULIAN E. LINARES FOR THE RHODE ISLAND SCHOOL OF DESIGN

INTRODUCTION//

//Form is a quality that simultaneously transcends the object and defines it. In this study stylistic ancestors are evaluated for their aesthetical qualities and rehashed into new objects, alongside
structural form-finding and heuristical iteration.

OBJECTS OF INSPIRATION//

//Each of these three objects were chosen at a different archival institutions, which are;
//RISD Museum - Sruli Recht Shirt
//RISD Nature Lab- White Coral
//Haffenreffer Museum - Fisherman Harp

The differing focal points of the curation allows for a broader understanding of global form.

REPRESENTATIONAL DRAWINGS//

//We begin by dissecting the ancestors and understanding their formal components. By analyzing this newly baked typology, we can begin to understand how they may best interact with our desired product: a bag for a small mirrorless camera.

CORAL BAG

//The coral bag is an exercise on surfacing and computational experientation. By establishing bearing surfaces on the mechanical components and body-hugging side, the outside of the bag was open to freeform deformation. The resulting shapes are reminiscent of the exploding coral examined.
